Yes, I know. The idea of posting on "what I hate about STO" has been done to death. This was originally going to be my "hopes of 2015" post. But as I was going through the long list of things that needed fixing...well, let's just say my conclusion was not a good one. Perfect World would have to completely let go of STO and sell it to a more worthy company to make any positive improvements.
My Gripes List (not limited to):
- Forced grinding in EVERY possible aspect of the game
- Pandering to whales (like with crafting and upgrading)
- Borderline forced purchase requirement (in reference to the zillions of DIL sinks and next to no decent methods of getting it)
- The INSANE XP requirement to max level
- The constantly lowered rewards, like DIL, XP, and crafting items
These have all become skeletonized horses the way they've been beaten. Instead I'm going to focus on things that could potentially be seen differently.
so how about...PVE Penalties and Cooldowns?
They are insulting our intelligence.
The prime example of this is the Winter Wonderland. For one thing, no such thing EVER existed in Star Trek. Sure, we've had frozen moons and icy planets. But there was never a necessity to create a winter holiday-themed Q playground. I always thought that when Q gets his entertainment by antagonizing the Borg. What POSSIBLE use would the immortal omnipotent Q being (or any other Q, for that matter) have with a Disneyfied dreamland? Let's not forget there are friggin' snowmen with friggin' laser beams attached to their heads. Seems to me the scary as hell (TNG-era) fucking Q has gone full pussy on us.
No, seriously. Take a good look at this staircase. I found it in the Wonderland.
Yeah, it's pretty, elegant, and all those other buzzwords.
Now look at the stairway and balcony from Frozen:
Okay, they don't look EXACTLY alike, probably due to copyrights and whatnot. If you've seen the movie, there's no way you don't see a connection. Hell, it even gives me not-so-pleasant flashbacks of Cinderella. It may not a a clone, but the vibe is definitely there. The previous Wonderland designs were just about winter as a season and looked the part. This year it's all about chasing Western pop culture and leaving anyone over 11 in the dust. I see it as PWE's way of telling us we're all a bunch a children and they assume we care as much about Star Trek as they do. That is to say, not at all.
